Staff Profile – Robert Kalsong

There could not be a more fitting staff member to write about in our first ever Staff Profile on our new website.

Robert Kalsong has been with the Resort since it opened in December 2007, in fact he was at the Resort well before it actually took guests helping to transform it from a construction site into a place fit for guests! Robert is pure bred Eratap (he is man Eratap). Born and raised in the Village he has seen a lot of changes over his life. Probably none more so than the establishment of Eratap Beach Resort. His family is one of 5 families who are the customary owners of the land on which the Resort is situated.

As soon as the Resort looked close to opening Robert asked if he could be the person to pick up and drop off guests to and from the Resort. He was given the position and he quickly made it his own. He won Employee of the Year in the Resorts opening year (2008) and continues to be an outstanding employee every year. We estimated he has welcomed over 7000 guests at the airport since the Resort opened and has driven the long bumpy road over 6000 times, that’s about 36,000 kilometres of bumping up and down, so spare a thought for Robert when you come down the road for the first time!

No matter what time of the day or night that guests arrive or depart, Robert is there with his big smile, open friendly face and heartfelt hospitality. He is not only an incredible employee but a real ambassador for his country. He is married to Emma and they have raised 4 beautiful children – Steven, Melanie, Sam & May. Steven works on 6 monthly contracts in New Zealand picking fruit & Melanie is on the front desk at the Resort. Robert is a senior member of the Eratap Village Church and is a key member of the Village Council. He has travelled to Sydney, Tamworth & Melbourne. We hope he stays with us for many years to come and I’m sure all guests will enjoy being welcomed by this great man.

We both agree that Robert is a marvellous ambassador for his village and for Eratap Resort. He is the first face of the resort and we knew we had made the right choice with Eratap, when Robert was there to pick us up, his smile was so genuine, his handshake and welcome and that wonderful ice cold bottle of water, he made us feel so comfortable from the moment he greeted us. We laughed when he told us about the long bumpy road, and that he knew every bump and how best to avoid them. Robert is very proud of his country and his village, he shares is knowledge freely and every question asked was answered. He thoroughly deserves all the accolades. We look forward to Robert greeting us when next we travel to Eratap. Regards Val & Kel
