Outer Islands

Another wonderful feature of Vanuatu are the other 82 outer islands that make up the Vanuatu archipelago. The most popular islands are Tanna, Santo, Pentecost & Ambryn and all can be visited as a day tour from Eratap.

Tanna Island is famous for Mt Yasur, an active Volcano located on the south eastern part of the island. It is one of the very few volcanoes on earth where tourists are allowed to walk to the rim and watch a volcano continually erupt. It is an amazing experience and can easily be done in a day or even a morning tour from Eratap.

Santo Island is famous for its outstanding diving, crystal clear blue holes and beautiful beaches. Santo island is home to the wreck of the SS Coolidge, providing unique wreck diving close to shore. It is the largest of all of Vanuatu’s islands and a great place to visit. Trips to Santo are easily arranged and whilst more than one day is ideal, this island can easily be visited as a day tour from Eratap.

Pentecost Island is home to the world renowned land diving spectacle. Each Saturday throughout May and June certain villages on Pentecost Island perform this amazing traditional custom. Jumping from timber platforms using local vines as ropes it is where the idea of bungey jumping was realized. Day tours to this spectacular event are easily organized from Eratap.

Ambryn Island is home to two active volcanoes and is seen as being the source of black magic in Vanuatu. Walking to the rim of these volcanoes is much more difficult than Mt Yasur in Tanna and can’t be done as a day trip. However beautiful scenic flights from Eratap to Ambryn can easily be arranged to showcase this stunning island.
